That a person is a satanist is a pretty common assumption. But most people who call themselves satanists are not satanists at all. In fact, the most common modern images of the devil are actually very secular in nature, if not downright friendly. For example, many would be surprised to learn that the singer Iggy Pop is actually a self-described follower of Satanism.

Similarly, there is a famous Christian artist out there by the name of Marilyn Manson, who is also a follower of Satanism. This is not to say that these artists do not believe in the existence of the devil. Indeed, they do believe in a deity called Satan, but they may think he exists in a far more personal way than they do.
